Sometimes the pain caused by severe tooth decay makes it impossible to save a tooth and it becomes necessary to remove it.

What is involved in an extraction?

We will begin by numbing the area around the tooth with a local anaesthetic so that nothing is felt during the process. We will talk to you throughout the process as we remove the tooth in the most atraumatic manner.

This atraumatic technique is also very important when planning for replacement options such as dental implants as we want to promote trouble free healing.

What aftercare do I need to follow?

We recommend that you avoid hot food and drinks for the first 24 hours. The following day you can gently rinse your mouth with warm, salt water solution and repeat after meals. If there is any bleeding bite down on clean cotton wool placed over the area for 10 minutes. If bleeding or pain continues we would recommend you contact us at the practice.
