Removable braces

Removable functional braces or ‘appliances’ as they are also known are used when treatment will work more effectively with a shorter length of time of around six months.

These removable appliances are designed to clip onto the back teeth and should only be removed for cleaning, eating, playing contact sports, swimming, and playing a wind instrument. When you do take your brace out, remember it is fragile, so keep it safely stashed in a protective brace box.

As your brace is removable, you have the advantage of being able to take it out for a good wash and brush up. When you do take it out, it’s sensible to clean it over a sink full of water in case you drop it. Also, keep a toothbrush specifically for shining up your appliance and use this allocated brush with toothpaste. Brush gently and rinse with water to ensure it will be nice and fresh when popped back into your mouth.
