Preventive Dentistry

Helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums is one of our main priorities.

We will work with you to help you improve or create a good oral hygiene routine to maintain a healthy mouth.

Why is preventative dentistry important?

Preventative dentistry highlights the steps you need to take so that tooth decay and gum disease do not become a lasting issue. It will mean less visits to us for treatment and it is particularly important for children, instilling good habits from a young age.

What can I do?

• Make sure you brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Remember not to rinse out after brushing.
• Use interdental brushes or floss daily to clean the spaces between the teeth – brushing alone will not clean the whole tooth surface.
• Eat a balanced diet. Avoid fizzy, acidic or sugary drinks.
• If you are a smoker then smoking can discolour teeth and lead to tooth loss and mouth cancer. It can also have a detrimental impact on gum disease.
